For the mechanical servant, it's a machine. Even if taking the quadrupede form, it has arms for mechanical purposes. You can roleplay them as retractable arms, or maybe a bunch of plates on the joints that emulate holding a shield, perhaps even a net throwing compartment for grappling, etc. Flavor is free.
