OM617, Good years for swap motor? Hello All, New to the forum, and to diesels. I am researching the best year OM617 for a swap into a Toyota land cruiser, and here is what I have found so far: This engine was offered (in the US) in the 300SD models from '79 to '85, and the model number for these engines ranged from the OM617.950 - .952.The 2014 Can Am Spyder has an average gas mileage of 36.5 mpg. The exact specifications, however, tend to vary with weather conditions, terrain and rider habits. The Can Am Spyder ...LOTS of cutting and fitting but maybe it's an easier fit in a Ranger. The exhaust is pretty simple - just a pipe out of the engine bay. The first section of the Mercedes pipe will make the exhaust work easier. Any radiator for a 5.0/Ranger swap should handle the cooling. Diesels are not generally hard to cool.20mpg eh? <snicker> Justin has said that about the OM617 in that 40, but I don't know what he's basing that on. I did Argentine Pass on a run he was on with that truck a few months ago (three diesels on the RS 40's only run, the Mercedes, a 3B-turbo, and a 13BT) and didn't see it have any issues with power, but I did notice it was smoking more than our 3B-turbo up high, but not by much.

If you have adjusted the governor internally, the torque control capsule is adjusted too much. Return it to the factory position and don't adjust it further than 1/2 turn. If the pump has not been modified, you have engine mechanical issues or the pump is installed with incorrect timing.
